Professor Adhikari's research stands on three fundamental footing - structural dynamics, probabilistic methods and computational mechanics. His research works use these basic principles to understand cutting-edge multiscale and multidisciplinary problems in applied science and engineering. Specific research areas include:
  1. Mechanics of Materials and Structures Across Length-Scales (Google Scholar label: nanomechanics)
  2. Dynamics of Complex Systems (Google Scholar label: structural dynamics)
  3. Uncertainty Quantification in Computational Mechanics (Google Scholar label: uncertainty quantification)
  4. Inverse Problems in Linear and Non-linear Dynamics (Google Scholar label: inverse problems)
  5. Vibration Energy Harvesting / Wind Energy (Google Scholar label: energy harvesting)
Professor Adhikari collaborates with some of the leading researchers in the field from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. The students and postdocs working in the research group have excellent backgrounds in mechanics, applied mathematics, structural dynamics and computational methods. These, combined with an atmosphere of truly inter-disciplinary thinking and open-minded approach allows them to conduct internationally leading research. Some of the publications appearing in prestigious international journals from these research works can be found in the above links.

Potential PhD students, MRes project students (one year project) and post-doctoral scholars interested in any of the above areas, or areas related to them, please contact me directly. Academic visitors, willing to spend some time in Swansea to collaborate in any of the above areas are also welcome. Fully funded scholarships are available for highly motivated students. Some details of these projects can be found by clicking the links above.
